There are two types of arthritis, both of which can cause different aches and pains, and both can respond favourably to the correct treatment.
- Osteoarthritis (OA) - Is a degenerative joint disorder, which can impact all joints around the body but most commonly affects knees, hips and hands. The term βwear and tearβ typically refers to osteoarthritis. This condition can contribute to joint stiffness, joint pain, joint crepitus (Clicking), limitation in movement and joint sensitivity/tenderness.
- Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) - is an autoimmune, inflammatory disease, which is characterized by joint pain and swelling/inflammation. Rheumatoid Arthritis typically affects the smaller joints in the body i.e. hands and feet, but can affect all joints. Typical features are symmetrical joint pain and swelling, fatigue, low-grade fever and other less common autoimmune symptoms such as uveitis and skin rashes.
Depending on the severity of the symptoms, we can consider referral for additional testing, such as blood tests and/or x-rays.
With a combination of hands-on treatment, lifestyle modifications and exercise/movement advice, We aim to improve joint stiffness, increase mobility, reduce pain and improve quality of life, in any way we can.
