Whether you’re a high level athlete, weekday gym goer or just enjoy taking part in sports, injuries can be terribly frustrating. It’s essential that your sports related injury is assessed and treated as quickly as possible. It’s our job to get you back fully fit and functional, so you can enjoy playing sports/training again.
Sports injuries don’t always mean that you need to stop exercising altogether. In most cases, it’s better to do something, rather than nothing. However, you wouldn’t want to be potentially making matters worse, by exacerbating the injury. The team at Sutton Coldfield Chiropractic are highly knowledgeable at assessing and treating sports injuries.
Injuries that are typically seen in sports, are often tendon, ligament or muscle related. The process to get back to full fitness can be a long road, depending on the severity of the injury and the patient’s compliance.
We would usually begin the initial appointment by taking a detailed medical history, to fully understand the patient and their case. From here we will perform a detailed examination, including sports specific diagnostic testing. This will also include functional and balance testing. We will then combine a mixture of spinal and extremity joint adjusting, soft tissue therapy and mobilisation and will prescribe a detailed exercise program, depending on the injury and sport/activity.
Typical sports related injuries seen at the clinic include:
- Groin strain/sprain
- Meniscal tear
- ACL/PCL injury
- Sprained ligament
- Fractured metatarsal
- Scaphoid fracture
- Shin splints (tibial stress syndrome)
